lot of things bush did, it is reflecting the political reality. the question for us in this us as americans, is to say, it is kind of bleak to think the united states will have to operate drones and have shady partnerships in places like yemen. it is hard work. it does not necessarily would we be willing to accept a certain inevitability as i think europeans in the 1970's accepted that there will be terrorist attacks from time to time and it's not the end of the world. this is what i think janet knap when she was department of homeland security, when she was in charge of the department of homeland security, talked about he idea of resilience. we're beginning to see some people sighing that they don't like drones either. and so we haven't really been able -- i think that the side that wants to talk about scaling back the war on terrorism at this point should also talk about the idea that it's not a false choice to quote obama from the national archives speech between liberty and security. it's a very real choice. and we should be coming to terms with that. >> i think liberty vs.

. we have a serious problem. it requires us to have a national discussion because the problem, mainly, is the drug cartels and the violent side of is a demand for drugs in the united states of america. whether they have a submarine, like i have seen in colombia. it is a violent place when you have armed members bringing drugs across the border into our country. i do not excuse any action that .ook place but to somehow think it is not dangerous when cartel members are bringing drugs up to this country is not an adequate reading of the situation on the border, and i visit it all the time. said, i think the answer to our border control is technology. you have a point about additional border patrol. one of the things we need more of is customs people so we can .xpedite traffic back and forth there are some of us here old enough to remember we used to be able to walk across and have and walkedgales back. think about doing that today. you bring up problems on the border, and with this surveillance capability, we will people back,keep and then we will be able to send these teams out. finally

been talking about flooding over the country. you may be like why are you showing us temperatures. it has a lot to do with why we have rain all over. temperatures in the 70s very unusual for the month of august. below average. meanwhile triple tig gets across parts of oklahoma the difference in air masses the moisture across sections of kansas and missouri a big area of high pressure over parts of texas and also louisiana helping produce the showers and storms as well. just in the past 48-hours in the past two-days areas have seen over a foot of rain over sections of missouri parts of arkansas the same across sections of oklahoma and kansas in a short amount of time. the last several days saturday into sunday you are expecting more rain out here locally over 6 inches of rain will be possible. flooding is a major concern. we want to update you. the national hurricane center updated the outlook through out the rest of the summer into snowfall. we are thinking it may be less or lower in terms of the extended outlook in terms of how many storms they are predicting. category 3 or above

it does not do to assist the u.s., has been helpful in some ways. he may talk about their cooperation after the boston marathon bombings or some of their assistance with respect to what's been going on in afghanistan, being able to get supply lines through and that sort of thing. but on some very key, very public issues, there's been a really chilly reaction to what the president has been saying and what vladimir putin's steps have been that assigning of asylum for as much as a year for edward snowden has put a real spotlight on the relationship. it's easier at the ministerial level for those conversations to go on today with secretaries it hagel and kerry. on the presidential level, when you sort of pit barack obama and vlad mifr putin t gets even more tense. i'm sure he'll be asked about that. and with respect to these nsa programs, there are foreign policy implications, of course. other countries are paying attention to what gets leaked. other countries are also engaged in their own forms of surveillance, but it does have an influence on foreign policy. >> kelly o'donnell at the wh

: relatively speaking. the febreze comes out in the commercial break. peter is in with us today as well. let's get to that fox news alert. a standoff ending in the hostage and one of the gunmen dead. >> a lot happening in a story overnight. this morning police identifying the gunman as fuaed abdu ahmed. around 1:00 eastern time they shot and killed the 20-year-old after they stormed a bank in st. joseph where he was holding two people hostage for about 13 hours. as swat teams entered the suspect shot both hostages in the chest, and one of them has died. at this hour the other is in critical condition at the hospital. authorities say that ahmed took three employees captive. he released one of them. we're learning new dough tails about the gun -- we're learning new details about the gunman's possible motive. >> he was mad at people. he was mad at people that he said were mean to him. he had voices in his head. >> authorities believe that he planned the whole thing. they had found written notes and then a book on hostage negotiations in his apartment. all of this unfolding about five hours ago.

to partially collapse. our nbc affiliate is in orlando this morning. marina, good morning. what can you tell us? >> reporter: good morning. quite the scare for guests here. this resort is about 6 miles out from walt disneyworld. many of the guests coming back from the night after spending all day at the parks and once they got into their room they reported hearing popping noises, window shattering. emergency crews here in minutes and evacuating all 36 guest from two buildings affected by this sinkhole, and all of them accounted for and thankfully no injuries reported. the elevator was the first part to go once the ground gave way and about 3:00 this morning the west wing of one of the buildings also tearing away from the rest of the structure. >> what are you hearing from officials about their concerns of some of the surrounding buildings at this point? >> reporter: well at this point, david, emergency crews deemed the surrounding structures as stable, and that sinkhole 40 to 60 feet in diameter, and 20 feet deep, but luckily everybody is accounted for and surroundsing buildsings are stable. >>
